Reconnecting With Phenomenal Women

What a weekend! I just returned from a FABULOUS weekend in Atlanta, the purpose of which was to visit family, to reconnect with and to celebrate phenomenal women. At the top of the list of phenomenal women being celebrated was Mrs. Catherine Thaniel Ammons, age 100.

Upon arrival Thursday morning, as always, the first person to greet me at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport was phenomenal creative genius Mario Foston, my publicist. We had a productive business meeting and enjoyed brunch at First Watch in Decatur, after which she dropped me off at the home of my AKA Sister Vickye Holt. Vickye’s breathtaking, beautifully decorated home was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of my life in the DMV  a reflection of her phenomenal woman status. Dinner presented a great opportunity to exchange stories about our lives, challenges and lots of laughter as mothers and professionals. During my visit, designated movie nights included The First Wives Club, Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, and Lift.

Friday was filled with fun and frolic with my daughter Moriah and granddaughter Marie, as we picked up Marie from school, spent the afternoon playing in the park on slides, in tunnels and on swings, and I witnessed the extraordinary talents of my daughter, “MommyMo” the phenomenal woman who is a dedicated, loving mother devoted to her precious, precocious daughter. After a Tex Mex dinner, we experienced a quiet evening that included Marie’s favorite Bluey series, and my favorite quality time spent reading a book to Marie before bedtime. Oh, the great joys of staying overnight with my two favorite girls!

Saturday morning, I awoke to the scents of a scrumptious breakfast of pancakes, turkey sausage, bacon, sliced apples, grapes and juices lovingly prepared and served by MommyMo. After breakfast, we dressed and drove to Covington to attend the celebration luncheon hosted by Moriah’s aunt, phenomenal woman Teresa Ammons Sherod, daughter of Mrs. Ammons. What a wonderfully presented celebration of phenomenal women! Moriah drove me from Covington back to Vickye’s home, which provided even more quality solo time for us, a testament of our forever mother-daughter bond, another blessing and balm for my soul.

On Sunday, Vickye and I hosted a brunch for a small number of our AKA Sisters who are members of Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of AKA, the graduate chapter of which I was a member for nearly a decade. It was a special afternoon of sisterly exchanges, shared experiences, delicious food and beverages prepared by Vickye. Her hospitality and generous spirit are deeply appreciated by all of us.

On Monday, Mario kindly transported me to the airport (as usual!) which provided time to happily debrief and confirm our next business meetings. The entire weekend included rewarding experiences overflowing with such an abundance of joy and memories I will forever cherish!

Delve into the depths of your phenomenal being to enhance your life’s purpose.
